FROM CHUCK WOODBURY
editor, http://www.RVtraveler.com

Welcome to the 28th edition of the RV Traveler Newsletter, brought
to you by the websites and sponsors above and a guy named Chuck,
who never met a recreational vehicle he didn't like.

As you read this, I'll be on Vancouver Island in beautiful British
Columbia, Canada. My wife, daughter and I will travel to and from the
island by Washington State Ferry from Anacortes, which is a
90-minute drive north of Seattle. The ferry ride lasts three hours, and
weaves its way through Washington's San Juan Islands, making for a
terrific "poor man's cruise." Vancouver Island is a wonderful place to
explore by RV, with many RV parks and campgrounds. Americans enjoy
a great exchange rate now in Canada, receiving about $1.60 Canadian for
every US dollar. You can learn more about Vancouver Island and about
getting there by ferry at these websites:

DEATH VALLEY ENCAMPMENT COMING IN NOVEMBER
If you plan to be out West in your RV this fall and want to have a truly
excellent adventure, plan to attend the Death Valley Encampment,
Nov. 6-10 in Death Valley, Calif. Thousands of RVs will converge at the
Furnace Creek oasis and elsewhere to partake of the festivities which
include cowboy poetry, old time fiddling performances, big ol' campfires,
square dancing under the stars, photo exhibits, a golf tournament (at
the world's lowest grass golf course) and a massive sea of RVs camped
side by side with their occupants visiting with each other, enjoying the
warm nights (not guaranteed), chowing down on potlucks, and more. This
is one very, very fun time. But arrive at least a few days early for a
choice campsite. More info is at http://www.deathvalley49ers.org

See photo of a sea of RVs taken at an Encampment. You'll either be
impressed or horrified! Click here:

SANTA BARBARA MAY ALLOW OVERNIGHT RV STAYS IN PARKING LOTS
Some Santa Barbara, Calif., downtown city parking lots may soon be available
to RV dwellers from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. The plan is the latest effort by the city
to deal with the proliferation of RVers who park on city streets. The plan
is part of a broader package, which includes restricting overnight RV parking in
waterfront lots; restricting people from parking their RVs for more than two
hours on city streets; and prohibiting RV parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Under
the proposal for parking at city lots, RV dwellers must enter after 11 p.m.,
unless specified otherwise, and leave by 6 a.m. The RVs would not be allowed
to connect to any utilities; must have self-sufficient sanitary facilities; and no
campfires, outside cooking facilities or generators would be allowed.

CHECK YOUR ROOF FOR LEAKS
One of the biggest problems you can have with your RV is a water leak, and
most often if one comes, it will be through the roof. It's essential, therefore,
to keep your roof water tight. Here's a very brief outline of how to do it.
http://www.worldwideclassified.net/rvdesign/roof.htm

"DRIVE" THE ALASKA HIGHWAY BEFORE YOU GO
Three new home videos provide a sneak preview of traveling north of

the Inland Passage by ferry). Their other videos, "Western Canada By RV"
and "Eastern Canada by RV" are equally entertaining. Read more about
these home videos or order at http://www.RVbookstore.com/howens.html

NEW NATIONAL PARK WILL BE A REAL BLAST!
Eleven years after then-President George Herbert Walker Bush took the
nation's Minuteman ICBM missile sites off alert, the U.S. Air Force will
transfer one of the sites, Delta 9, to the Interior Department to become
the first unit of the National Park System dedicated to the Cold War.
Minuteman Missile National Historic Site (complete with deactivated missile)
is six miles east of Wall, S.D. (near Rapid City) and is scheduled to open to the
public in 2005. To learn more, visit http://www.nps.gov/mimi

. . . If you don't want to wait to visit a missile museum, you can explore one
right now in Green Valley, Arizona (25 miles south of Tucson). Read about
the Titan Missile Museum at http://www.outwestnewspaper.com/titan.html

from the previous week to $1.417. The price increase marked the sixth

RV JOKE

An elderly RVer couple was celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary
with a party in their fifth wheel trailer. Arriving guests noticed that the
old man was crying, and found his overwhelming emotion touching. The
wife, too, noticed. "Why are you crying?" she asked.

"Do you remember the night we were kissing on your parents' front
porch?" he asked. "Yes, dear," she replied. "I'll never forget it. Dad
came outside and told me to get inside immediately."

"Well, after you went inside, your dad told me a few things. He said
he was the judge in town and that he could kill me and get away with it.
Or, he said, he could send me to jail for 50 years. He said my third choice
was to marry you."

"I see," said his wife. "But why are you crying now?" The man began to sob.
And then, gaining his composure, he said, "I'd be getting out today."
