FROM CHUCK WOODBURY
editor, http://www.RVtraveler.com

Greetings from Edmonds, Wash., the pretty little town right
alongside Puget Sound where the best seafood dinner is the
one you prepare yourself after snagging a King Salmon
off the public pier. Yum!

I would like to take this opportunity to clear the air on two
points. Number one: for those of you who email me after
each issue to inform me of how I misspelled something or
got a fact wrong, I offer my thanks. But I would also like to
explain to you that I am my own proofreader. As any decent
writer will tell you, this is asking for trouble, for it's
impossible to catch all of one's errors. As hard as I try to be
accurate, I never get everything right.

Second, for those of you who complain about the number of
ads in each issue, yes, you are right, there are many ads.
Most are for products I sell in my RV Bookstore, but there are
some paid advertisements as well. This newsletter is sent to
you free of charge, so the ads and product sales pay its way.
Publishing websites and this newsletter is my full-time
occupation. I am too young to retire, so I must either work
or become homeless. For my work, I choose to be an
Internet publisher and the subject I have chosen is one dear
to my heart -- RVs, one of which I own myself. If I did not
accept ads or sell products then I would need to get a real
job, which is a thought so horrible that I am shaking right
now as I even ponder the possibility.

So now I hope you now understand why there are ads in this
newsletter.

Finally, it came to my attention recently that I now have
two drawers in my motorhome that qualify as junk drawers.
I had gone years with only one such drawer, but now there is
so much miscellany in my mobile life that I have two. I wonder
if I am normal or abnormal about this. How many junk
drawers do you have in your RV, if any? Please email me
and let me know. Thanks.

Now, onward to terrific news and information (and interesting
ads about RV books, videos other products and services).

NEW LIGHTWEIGHT RVs: ALL THE COMFORTS
For many of today's shoppers, lighter is better -- including those
looking for an RV. As a result, lightweight travel trailers are
becoming one of the RV industry's hottest trends. Driving the
popularity of lighter towable RVs is the recent surge in family
ownership of minivans and sport utility vehicles -- now
constituting over half of the market for U.S. automobiles.
Lightweight RVs are easily towed by these popular family
vehicles, making an RV purchase even more attractive and
affordable. Read more.

DIESEL PRICES STILL HEADED DOWN
On-highway diesel prices declined the 12th week in a row, according
to figures released June 2. The national average, at-the-pump diesel
price decreased from $1.434 to $1.423 a gallon, the Energy
Information Administration reported.

A HEAP OF RV SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS
The Escapees is one of our very favorite RV clubs. We believe
that any full-time RVer who is not already a member should
join. Besides its club activities, regional rallies and club-owned
RV parks, the club sponsors many sub-groups, where members
band together to socialize and share information about their
special interests. Among these "Birds of a Feather" groups are
those about amateur radio, alternative medicine, boondocking,
computing, Christian fellowship, quilting, RVing with kids,
single RVing, woodcarving . . . and dozens more. Learn about
other special interest groups within the Escapees
.

WIRELESS INTERNET AND RVing
Here is an excellent discussion about wireless Internet (also
called Wi-Fi) and how RVers can take advantage of it while on
the road for email and to surf the Web.

GOOD SAM EMERGENCY ROAD SERVICE

FOR THESE RVers, LIFE IS ONE DISASTER AFTER ANOTHER

years, living out of their RV, traveling from one disaster to another.
Their job: arrive at a disaster area six months after the fact to
help get long-term recovery efforts in gear. Once this process
is underway, and under the supervision of a local group, the
Peercys, who each have an extensive work history in the
construction business, bring in volunteers to rebuild damaged
and destroyed homes. Read more.

CAMPGROUND HOSTING NOT ALWAYS A PICNIC
It sounds so good — you get a free campsite and sometimes even
a small paycheck to keep your eyes out at a campground and
perform some chores. But, the reality isn't quite that
rosy -- sometimes campground hosts can come upon some
difficult situations. Here's an overview of camp hosting -- the
good, the bad and the ugly (mostly the good).

RV TECH TIP
"The best time to empty the black water tank is when it's nearly
full. That way, there's enough liquid to flush all the solids from
the tank. Emptying a partially full tank may leave the undissolved
material in the tank. If you must dump before a long voyage, fill
the tank with water first and then pull the plug."
From RVers Bible.

BREAKING NEWS

YELLOWSTONE CAMPGROUND CLOSED DUE TO BEAR ATTACKS
Two close encounters with grizzly bears in Yellowstone National
Park have prompted park officials to temporarily close Pebble
Creek campground in the West Thumb geyser area. On Sunday, a
grizzly jumped onto an unoccupied tent at the campground, rolling
onto it before leaving. On Monday evening, a woman and her family
were touring West Thumb Geyser Basin when a bear, thought to
be a grizzly, came out of the woods and onto the boardwalk,
approaching the woman and then standing up on its hind legs. The
woman fell to the ground and remained still. The bear approached
and bit her twice without breaking her skin, then ran when the
woman's husband yelled at it. Read more:

WORTH PONDERING
'Nobody holds a good opinion of a man who has a low opinion
of himself." — Anthony Trollope

RANDOM RV THOUGHT
"One reason some RVers move from a Class C motorhome
to a Class A is to avoid sleeping in the overhead bunk on the
Class C. To get out of bed, the person on its forward-side must
climb over his or her bedmate to get out, and this can be
tricky, especially in the middle of the night. Also, making
this bed is not easy." Do you have a Random RV Thought?
Email it to Chuck Woodbury at outwest@seanet.com.
